The Apple business for Redington India has been growing at 130% y-o-y for the last 4 years. To further accelerate the business, the distributor for Apple desktops, laptops and iPads is aggressively looking at increasing visibility in B-class cities.
Speaking exclusive to The DQ Week, Deepak Singh Kanyal, business manager, Redington India said, "Ever since Apple India has started reporting to EMEA from China, the focus of Apple towards Indian market has been growing. Moreover, with Apple, we are investing on improving its visibility through point of sales and pre-sales resources. Worldwide-including India-Apple is renovating its exclusive retail stores interiors. In India, 65% of such stores are undergoing new look and feel."
For Redington, the growth of Apple is apparent, as it does a business of Rs 600 crore annually, wherein it does nearly 40% of Mac desktops and laptops as compared to other two Apple distributors, which are Ingram and Neoteric.
Kanyal further said, "We are expected to ship more than one lakh units of Mac products in FY 2012, however the size of iPad is growing much faster and we are waiting for the next version of iPad launch in India. In the last FY, a total of one lakh units of tablets were sold in the India, wherein Apple had 45% market share."
The distributor will also be focusing on B-class cities in the next one year. "We are looking at major B-class cities like Chandigarh, Indore, Lucknow and many others as our next growth markets," concluded Kanyal.
