New Update

As the rage over Rashi Peripherals continues with North East Computer Traders Association (NECTA) continuing with its ban over the national distributor on grounds of major ethical issues, NECTA alleged that Rashi Peripherals (RP) recently accused the association of mishandling its personnel and resorting to violent physical action against its office in Guwahati under the background of a meeting between the two aggrieved parties.

NECTA alleged that RP, in a mail stated that NECTA had resorted to physical violence in their regional office. However, details about the supposed untoward incident were not detailed.

"RP accused us of creating ruckus its office whereas it was quite peaceful discussion with them; under no circumstances did NECTA assault any officials or office of RP. If RP is claiming about the assault, why didn't they file an FIR in the police station or provide us or legal authorities with the CCTV footage," claimed Avinash Jalan, joint secretary, NECTA.

However, over this incident, RP refused to comment with Rajesh Goenka, VP, sales and marketing, RP stating, "some discussions are going on", over the scenario in the north-east.

Jalan further claimed that Goenka, during his last visit to Guwahati to agreed to NECTA's claims that the disputed Savera Marketing Agency (SMA) is part of RP.

"I had a discussion with Goenka during his visit to Guwahati where he clearly owned up to the fact that SMA is part of RP; whereas Krishna Choudhary denied about our claim. What do we make out of these dual stance?," Jalan complained.

Under this backdrop, RP is supposed to have suffered at least 14% loss of overall business in the east on account of the ban imposed on the national distributor since December, 2011.

The situation remains quite dicey with NECTA not considering any alternative other than the closure of SMA in Guwahati while RP continues to defend its stance about non-involvement with SMA and non-disclosure of partner data to any external sources.

The latest impulsive series of situations took place earlier this year with Confederation of Indian IT Associations (CIITA) coming into the focus as the supposed mediator for the dispute.

However, NECTA clarified that the case has not yet been referred to CIITA for an amicable resolution and B Hari, president, CIITA opted to keep off the situation.

Earlier, Rajiv Poddar, Secretary, CIITA stated about the uncertainty of the confederation getting involved into the sensitive regional issue opting to balance the situation. Also, Pawan Jajodia, treasurer, CIITA stated that "We (CIITA) expect the dispute to be over by the end of 2011," which did not happen.

"We are concerned for both RP as well as NECTA. RP is a Compass member and NECTA is a CIITA member; we have responsibilities for both," Poddar previously stated about the stance of CIITA in December, last year.

However, officially CIITA is yet to take up the issue with RP on behalf of NECTA.

"We had asked B. Hari about his stance in this sensitive issue and his involvement with this case; he refrained from getting involved stating it is a local issue," said Ranjan Das, joint secretary, CIITA.

However, the President of CIITA and COMPASS remains marked in every official communications between RP and NECTA

As allegations and counter claims continues to come in from the disputing parties in the north-east, the situation still remains inexplicable as well as uncertain with the 'local issue' escalating across the entire eastern India and to an extent, affecting the channel scenario across India.
