AirTel has received a excellent response from Punjab, where it launched its mobile services last month. AirTel has already registered 30,000 customers, which translates into approximately 10 percent of the cellular subscriber market in Punjab. AirTel in Punjab today has its services in 40 towns and cities and will be expanding services to a total of 81 towns and cities by March 31, 2002.
According to Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman and Group MD, Bharti, "We are overwhelmed by the response to the launch of our services and thank all the customers who have expressed their faith in us. No where in India has any new mobile service received such a large vote of confidence from its customers in such a short time. This response is testament to our belief in delivering value and a high quality of service to all our customers."
This reflects a warm welcome that Punjab customers have given to Bharti Group through AirTel. This is also seen as the victory of the paradigm of 'consumer choice' over the earlier 'monopolistic market environment' in Punjab. Bharti had launched AirTel with a promise to provide Punjab with a world class choice.
"AirTel is recognized for its dedicated customer focus and we intend to make sure that over the course of the coming weeks our customers expectations are matched by the same qualities that have won AirTel accolades for its service across the country", added IB Mehra, CEO, Bharti Mobile, Northern region.
AirTel from Bharti Tele-Ventures operates services in seven circles in India and is licensed to provide cellular services in eight additional circles. Bharti's mobile footprint covers 92 percent of all mobile phone users in India cutting across 1.8 million sq km in 16 states touching a total population base of approximately 600 million people. It currently has a customer base of over 1.25 million satisfied customers.
