Pune University bags patent for vaccine

A research project carried out at the Bioinformatics Center, University of
Pune in collabora-tion with the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, on
'Dev-elopment of a B-cell-Th-cell chimeric peptide vaccine agai-nst Japanese
encephalitis virus' has culminated into an Indian patent.

The international patent application is also in its final stages of
processing. Depart-ment of Biotechnology, Govt of India funded the project. Prof
AS Kolaskar, VC, University of Pune and Dr MM Gore, Deputy Director, NIV, led
the project.

According to Prof Kolaskar, a chimeric peptide consisting of B-cell epitope,
Th-cell epi-tope separated by a spacer peptide has been developed by the team
that has shown pro-mising results in the laboratory experiments.
