association with The DQ Week,
CyberMedia Research (CMR), a premier
consulting firm, has come up with the much awaited highlights and
revelations of IT channel association survey 2011. Suman Dutta, lead
analyst, CMR “From the survey amongst the top 10 associations, CMR
has figured out the Surat based South Gujarat Information Technology
Association (SITA) has the largest turnover of about Rs 10 crore from
the trade fairs and expos. It is then followed by the leading Pune's
Computers and Media Dealers Association (CMDA) which has a turnover
of about Rs 4-5 crore from the trade fairs and exhbitions it conduct.
The study was aimed to do a profi ling of the prominent IT channel
associations in India andrank them based on certain quantifiable
parameters along with their members' feedback/experience.” In
each of the associations, the president or secretary of the executive
council was asked some basic questions about the association body.
size="4">To
evaluate the lobbying power of the body, the survey questionnaire
sought to find out how many times the body had made representations
to the government and the numbers of partners who were the part of
delegation. Explaining the methodology of the survey, Dutta said, “We
followed a pre-tested model for the evaluation of these associations,
based on inputs from the discussions with the executives of the
respective associations and non-executive members. The parameters on
which the associations were adjudged included membership growth,
electoral process, awareness programs, communications, frequency of
internal meetings, and organizing exhibitions and trade fairs in
their region.” The Computers and Media Dealers Association (CMDA),
Pune got the top position for the fi rst time. Mumbai based Traders
Association of IT (TAIT) and Kolkata based Computer Association of
Eastern India (COMPASS) got the 2nd and 3rd ranks, respectively.

on coming at the top slot of the coveted DQW-CMR IT channel
association study 2011, Yogesh Godbole, president, CMDA said that
regular internal meetings and business events facilitated their
association to top the chart. “We really appreciate the study which
has recognized our efforts. We conduct about 42-44 internal meetings,
excluding the meetings happening during IT expos. Entire committee is
oriented towards a single goal of enhancing the trade opportunities
in Pune involving every member in all the events. We cater to all our
members and their issues,” he added.
size="4">Although
TAIT has scored high in almost all the parameters like members
feedback, regular communications, business directory, regular social
activities and conducting regular business events, it has dropped
from its fi rst position, which the association was holding since the
last 2 years. It scored a bit low in the parameters like internal
meetings, number of business events and irregular website updates, as
compared to the last year's study. Summing it up, B Hari,
president,

said, “Definitely, ranking does not define our
standard of work we deliver to the channel community, but of course
we are extremely glad that we are consistently maintaining our
position in this survey. But, this time onwards, we need to change
our gears to move onto a different level.”
