Delhi based ProDot, a
brand of Datalink Industrial Corporation is planning to enter the
peripherals and accessories market under its own brand name in March,
2012.

The peripherals include
mouse, keyboards, headphones, laptop adaptors, batteries, etc,
amongst others. Initially 1 lakh pieces will be floated in the market
and the prices will be set as per the industry standards. For this
particular venture, the company will import all goods from China.

Speaking to The DQWeek,
Pramod
Rajpal, CEO, ProDot, said, “We are basically a cartridge
re-manufacturing and refilling company and as a part of our business
expansion we are entering the peripherals and accessories business.
The deal is in the finalization stage and we are a group of four
persons who will look after the quality control.”

The company has two
manufacturing units; one in Himachal Pradesh and another in Dehradun.
Its main business still remains the same and therefore ProDot might
also get into manufacturing of printers. Rajpal added, “We are in
talk with some vendors and we may manufacture our own printers.”

Currently ProDot's
distribution includes 17 CNF agents, 600 distributors and 10,000
dealers/retailers all over India. It currently sells ink worth
filling 20 lakh cartridges per month. The company is finalizing new
distribution style for the new range of accessories, which is all set
to launch.

On the issue of cartridge
re-manufacturing and refilling, ProDot shelled out its grievances
against the government and corporates and said, “The government
charges more on the import of raw materials than on finished goods so
we land up paying taxes upto 26.75%. Also, we do not flout any CVC
norms as hyped. Secondly, why should the warranty of printers be void
with the use of compatible ink as stated by printer vendors in
India?”
