Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), as with any other outsourced function, is cheaper to set up initially but remains at roughly the same cost level over the months and years. Once it is set up, there are no incremental costs and it can be used repeatedly. Sharath Jeppu, Business Manager, SafeScrypt Ltd stated this at a training program on PKI workshop 'Digital Signature: All you want to know'.

He also said that PKI collectively supports the implementation and operation of a certificate based public key cryptographic system and consists of systems that collaborate to provide and implement the public certificate system and related services, which is important for Internet security.

Speaking on the role of certification authority, he said that a certification authority authenticates and distributes public keys, issues certificates to authenticated individuals or organizations, revokes certificates, maintains status, provides directory services and defines and embodies the trust policies for a community.

Speaking on approach to Digital signature, Atul Saran, MD, SafeScrypt said, "We need a digital code that is unique and specific to a person or entity and for that social security or ID is not a secret therefore private key is important." He also said that private and public keys are mirror images by which you can encrypt with the one and decrypt with the other.
