Philips Electronics India Limited on the occasion of Ganesh Utsav creates the largest - 8 feet high Modak made by using 2100 CFL bulbs. The idea behind this unique initiative by Philips was to ensure that each devotee will now even have the Darshan of Ganesha's favourite Prasad - the Modak from a distance.

Sumit Joshi, senior director - marketing, Philips Lighting India said, "The Lalbaughcha Raja Mandal is visited by 70-80 lakh devotees during the Utsav and the devotees stand in the queue for 11 - 12 hours for the Darshan. So the idea of creating Lord Ganesha's favourite prasad- the Modak was that, as each devotee enters the Mandal he can have an immediate Darshan of the Modak".

The Modak though created with 2100 CFL bulbs will still be energy efficient when compared to the normal incandescent bulbs which are normally used in pandaals/ mandals during festive occasions. Ganesh Utsav which started on 19th September will culminate on 29th September 2012.

Post the Ganesh Utsav, Philips will donate these 2100 CFL bulbs to various needy schools in the vicinity.
