DQ Week-CMR recently concluded its IT channel association Survey
2011. The
results highlighted that few associations have performed
exceptionally well and managed significant jump in their overall
ranking. Although none of these associations are in the top-10 list
and neither of them are from any of the metros. The associations
which have managed this praiseworthy achievement include: Bhoj
Information Technology and Office Automation Dealers Association
(BITOAA), Udaipur
Computer Traders Association (UCTA), Ambala Computer Dealers
Association
(ACDA), Jodhpur Computer Dealer Association (JCDA) and Agra Computer
Traders Association (ACTA). All these association have rolled out
initiatives which resulted in the overall growth of the association
and its members. Commenting on this, Suman Dutta, lead analyst, CMR
said, “Seeing the growing potential, these emerging associations
in India with their highly focused and clear ideas have been able to
infl uence the market. They have fought cases and won against
governments. They have also extended help to arbitrate channel
disputes and run welfare schemes to improve the trade practices in
India.”

the race with 14th rank, Bhopal based, BITOAA has been doing
commendable activities both towards business and social cause.
Commenting on this, Narendra Lokwani president, BITOAA said, “We
have improved our strategy to resolve issues between vendors and
dealers. Also, we have settled service and warranty related issues.”
He further added the association has invested about Rs 2 lakh on
social activities like blood donation camp and other charitable
activity. The association is planning to come out with directory.
size="4">Udaipur
based, UCTA has managed to resolve most of its member issues. For
instance, payment delay issues by vendor to its members, warranty and
service related problems, incentive issues with vendors and partners
were addressed and solution was offered positively. Going ahead, the
association has already booked a website domain and is planning to
launch it in the near future.
size="4">Ambala
based, ACDA was also engaged in similar activities. The association
also sorted out piracy related issues. Rajesh Tayal, spokesperson,
ACDA said, “We stuck to basics which is working towards the
well-being and welfare of our members. We have been putting in
efforts to engage in one-on-one meeting with our members and also
organizing internal meetings to get feedback and figure out their
problems.” ACDA also conducted anti-piracy awareness program to
educate the members to combat against it. They also organized family
get together event every month. Jodhpur based, JCDA was not
operational in last couple of years. However, now it is completely
systematic and members have registered with proper process. This
resulted in the reduction in number of registered members as compared
to the total number of reseller in Jodhpur. Now the association has
laid down guidelines to further improve its overall operational
aspect. Apart from this, the association has successfully solved
payment default issues. It also solved, warranty issues, replacement,
delay in incentives payment ,etc, with
vendors/dealers/subdistributors. Adding to this, Basant Mehta,
president, JCDA said, “We want our members to be IT savvy and
encourage them to work online. We also have different forums to
discuss ideas, and problems.”
size="4">The
association is also successful in helping members recover money.
Apart from this, they also conducted a series of technical seminars
last year. On the other hand, Agra based ACTA has been striving hard
to improve the market conditions and civic amenities. Due to poor
market conditions, there were a lot of issues that partners used to
face on day-to-day basis like theft, bad road, no lighting, etc.
Anant Prakash, secretary, ACTA said, “The association took up the
initiative to improve the market scenario and managed to get Rs 3
crore from the local administration. Now, they have successfully
completed a major part of this project as the area now has better
road, lights and security. We are planning to build a boundary wall
and install CCTVs in the market. Also, there are plans to roll out
trade fair in the coming year.” Apart from this, the association
with other people supported Anna Hazare and participated in a candle
light march. The common strain that is among these associations is
the effort they have put in to bring together its member community
and also improve the overall business environment. Such factors have
improved the overall mindshare toward these associations resulting in
revamping the channel ecosystem.
