Speaking to The DQWeek, A Gunasekaran, president, NITA, said, "Power cut is becoming worse in our district and we (channel partners) cannot bear the power cuts anymore. In Nilgiri, the hydraulic power plants generate around 850 MW power every day, while the consumption of the whole district is just 90 MW for a day. For such a hill station, district power cut is unnecessary." He also said that except Nilgiri, other hill stations in Tamil Nadu like Kodaikanal and Yelagiri do not have power cuts.

The main demand of the participants in the protest was to rid the channel partners off the 8 hour power cut in the Nilgiri district. The roadshow was organized by various associations in the district and almost all the NITA members participated in the protest.
