NIIT touches the 2000th education center mark

With the launch of its third education center in Allahabad, NIIT achieved a new landmark of setting up the 2000th NIIT education center in the world in the year 2000. It plans to take the set up to 1000 centers in the coming year. NIIT is also setting its sights on attaining the global leadership position in IT education and training by the year 2004, with its education revenues of Rs 625 crores is already ranked among the top seven independent IT education and training companies in the world.

Speaking on the occasion Dewang Mehta, President, NASSCOM said, "NIIT has been able to achieve this landmark due to its ability to continuously innovate, tenaciously deliver quality and consistently meet the expectations of both the learners and the IT industry. Institutions like NIIT along with formal educational institutions, have a major role to play to fulfill the increasing gap of supply and demand of quality IT professionals. I am sure in the coming years, NIIT will play a leading role in this direction. NIIT has done yeomen services to India by not only creating more than a million IT literate, but also providing some high quality professionals for Indian software industry."

Recounting the growth of NIIT's Education and Training Network, Suren Singh Rasaily, Senior VP and Head of Education and Training Business, NIIT said, "The tremendous response of our customers in embracing computers has led to the creation of a burgeoning IT training industry. NIIT is also credited with pioneering franchising of education and giving entrepreneurship a new fillip by setting up and making successful over 1000 entrepreneurs in the deep interiors of the India as well as 25 other countries while maintaining the high quality of its offerings."

NIIT has recently signed a MoU with the World Bank on a Student Loan Program. Worth Rs 440 crores, this loan is the first step towards the creation of an education loan in India and will allow 40,000 students to benefit from this, over the next five years. The loan has a payback scheme that allows students to repay once they start earning. Rasaily thanked the 15-lakh strong alumni for trusting NIIT to help them enhance their skill base. 

"NIIT's unique business model enables us to offer very latest in technology by effectively utilizing the synergy between the Education and Training and Software businesses. The experience gained while working on software projects is used to equip students with real life situations making them hands-on practitioners. In turn, these practitioners provide the essential human resource input to create software solutions," he added.
