In an attempt to select people with potential for the booming IT/ITeS
industries, NIIT has launched a special National IT Aptitude Test (NITAT 2004)
for college students, across India. This is the first ever nation-wide talent
hunt for IT manpower.
According to the press rele-ase, apart from enabling stu-dents to gauge their
aptitude for the IT sector, the assess-ment is expected to become a yardstick
for the industry, to determine the competence of IT career aspirants. The
nation-wide test will be conducted on September 19, 2004 in over 200 NIIT
education centers across top 100 towns in the country. Candidates can regi-ster
online at www.niit.com or at their nearest NIIT centers.
Unveiling the initiative, Dr Smarajit Dey ,Head of NIIT's education
business said, "This initiative is an attempt to meet the large and growing
man-power needs of the IT/ITeS industries. The reputation en-joyed by the Indian
IT industry, coupled with the outsourcing needs of global companies, have led to
a rapid resurgence in the IT sector. This manpower requirement will be
impossible to fulfill without special effort."
NIITAT 2004 has received special support from World Rapid Chess Champion and
NIIT's MindChampion Viswa-nathan Anand.
Endorsing NIIT's NITAT initiative Pradeep Gupta, CMD, Cybermedia, Dataquest
& IDC (India) said, "With the Indian IT industry requiring more than a
million IT professionals by the year 2008, the youth of India can look forward
to extremely promising IT careers."
Around 50,000 candidates are expected to assess their IT aptitude as part of
the NITAT initiative. Every student under-going the test, will receive a
detailed score-sheet and personalized feedback.
