Nehru Place Bachao campaign: Steering committee applauds civic authorities

The steering committee formed by representatives from various associations of Nehru Place, like NIWA, PCAIT, EFSA,ADTCA has appreciated the diligence exhibited by the civic authorities-DDA and Delhi Police-whereby successful meetings were conducted with the additional commissioner of South East Delhi Police and the office of the assistant engineer of DDA Nehru Place, to contrive a strategy to ameliorate the conditions of the commercial center.

Meanwhile, the association is closely monitoring the progress of the call for action and expecting the same to be completed by March 15, 2012.

Speaking to The DQWeek, Saket Kapur, secretary, PCAIT said, "We are in the process of sending a letter of appreciation to the Lieutenant Governor and Police for their action taken for the improvement. Post the protest, there has been a perceptive improvement in the areas of concern and we wish to felicitate the concerned officers from Delhi Police and Delhi Development Authority for the same."

The steering committee has been rigorously monitoring the progress in the area and are constantly in touch with the authorities.

According to Anil Sehgal, president, NIWA, "It is mutually agreed to contain the hawkers in the main plaza with various court orders, around the revised earmarked areas, keeping in mind free passages for emergency vehicles like ambulance and fire brigades at the event of any catastrophe. Additionally, It was mutually agreed to clear all corridors of ground floor and first floor of the buildings from any unauthorized encroachment."

The association has mutually agreed to clean the commercial center 3 times a day and provide open dust bins in front of all buildings to avoid scattering of garbage.
