FC Kohli bestowed with Dadabhai Naoroji Memorial Award
FC Kohli, hailed as the father of Indian software, has been by the Dadabhai Naoroji Memorial Prize Fund as the recipient of the Dadabhai Naoroji Memorial Award for the year 2000.

The award has been bestowed on FC Kohli in recognition of the efforts taken by him for advancing the interests of the country in the field of Information Technology. The Award this year comprises an amount of Rupees one lakh and a silver plaque.

Kohli, born in Peshawar in 1924, had his early education in India and is a Graduate in Electrical Engineering from Queen's University of Canada, and has a Master's Degree from MIT, USA. He started his career in Tata Electronic Companies where he earned a reputation for establishing a highly reliable power generation and distribution system.

A solid base of talented human resources should be developed immediately to meet the future, said FC Kohli, while delivering the Convocation Address of Anna University.

FC Kohli, who is the IT Advisor to Tata Consultancy Services said that for approaching the future, mere political, economic social and ethical considerations would be inadequate. A solid base of talented human resources and technical skills is essential, he said.

He also further added that henceforth Information and Technology would be core elements of business and industry, leading to 'Knowledge Management' creating more value both in our so-called new and old economies. Inorder to achieve this, he stressed the need for continuing education and improvement of Quality of Engineering Education in the country. He insisted that all the Engineers should pay special attention to continuing education to update their skills and knowledge. 

Pointing out that India has too few institutions like IITs and IISCs that produce an insignificant number of top class first degree engineers, FC Kohli stressed the need to produce more such graduates and suggested that institutions should be elevated to the level of
IITs.
