The increasing demand in the consumer electronics has
prompted Nanya Technology to consider shifting its production to produce flash
memory chipsets, commented Jih Lien, President, Nanya during the ground breaking
for their first 12-inch foundry, located at Linko (northern Taiwan). The company
has been carefully assessing the feasibility of entering the highly competitive
market, which is dominated by Seoul-based Samsung Electronics Co. Lien also
said that the company will allot NT$83 billion funds to build 12-inch fab and
the planned maximum monthly capacity will be 62,000 wafers. However, the first
phase of construction should take the company through the middle of 2008, by
which time the monthly capacity will reach 24,000 wafers.
