MSN soaring high in India

MSN India (http://www.msn.co.in) announced that it has recorded two million unique users in one month. The portal went live in September 2000 and has since captured an estimated market share of 35 percent of the total Internet user base in the country. The company also said that the news desk, entertainment, cricket and rupee channels had registered maximum interest among Indian users.

The opinion poll voting button on MSN averages 8000 votes in 3 days and the instant messaging service has clocked 15 million logins in November 2000.

Commenting on the success of the site, Sanjay Mirchandani, MD, Microsoft Corporation (I) Pvt Ltd said, "Worldwide MSN is the No 1 destination on the Internet today. The driving force for our success in India has been our vast experience in the Internet business coupled with our unique technology advantage. Some of the latest offerings on the side include Web lifestyle which allows individuals to create personal Web pages, and easily downloadable Digital dashboard. In addition the revised MSN News Desk provides users with ore than hundred news stories as it happens, complemented with feeds from leaders in the news business including National, world, Business, Sports and Technology News.
