BSNL mobile services to be delayed

Disputes with the suppliers are likely to delay the much-publicized BSNL cellular services in Madhya Pradesh by a few months. BSNL had earlier planned to launch its mobile services in the state in December 2001. Addressing a press conference, Pramodaditya Prakash Khare, Chief GM, MP Telecom Circle, BSNL was however confident that these disputes with the suppliers would be sorted out soon. Negotiations are in progress at the higher level to resolve these wrangles as early as possible, he added.

He said BSNL (Western Region) had already issued advance purchase order for launching its cellular services in the state. However, the MP Telecom Circle was all prepared to start mobile services as soon as it was cleared by the department in Delhi. The infrastructure, including buildings, towers and availability of DC power for the purpose, were ready, Khare stated.
