MicroWorld Software Services Pvt Ltd has introduced WebScan for Linux, a
security solution to protect GNU/Linux based systems. The product is
specifically designed for systems that act as proxy servers or gateways and run
on the GNU/Linux platform.

According to the press release, the product enables users to scan web pages
for content policy violations as well as for viruses, worms, Trojans and other
mailware. It also allows blacklisting of MIME file types such as audio, video,
pictures etc. so that Internet bandwidth is effec-tively utilized. Also HTTP
file uploads can be blocked to ensure that theft or leakage of sensitive
organizational data is avoided. Unauthorized access to certain websites can be
blocked because the product contains a feature, which classifies websites based
on rating by organi-zations like RASCi, Safe Surf and ICRA, etc.

According to Govind Rammurthy, CEO and MD, MicroWorld "Linux based
systems are gaining more popularity than ever before. According to a recent IDC
report, 2005 is the year when Linux will be capable of taking on more workloads
in the enterprise; hence this is the right time for us to introduce such a
unique security product in the market."
