With the demand for enterprise storage solutions increasing day by day, Microsoft's India Development Center (IDC) has announced its foray into the same area by the creation of a group that will be responsible for developing new technologies in the enterprise storage management arena.
"Initially we are going to start the work with the help of 30 software professionals but as we move forward significant amount of effort will be required in this direction, so we will be hiring aggressively," said Srini Koppolu, Managing Director,
IDC.
Microsoft's goal is to make Windows a better platform for applications that rely on storage. "Our vision for storage is to have a reliable, secure, and easy to operate solution so that users are benefited. This development is an effort towards that direction," he added.
Microsoft's core strategy to manage data explosion is to bring together structured and unstructured data into a form that is both manageable by IT and accessible as information to the end-user. Microsoft created enterprise storage division about eight months back with an aim to create applications and services on Windows that rely heavily on the underlying storage systems.
"The vision of trustworthy storage will make storage easier to administer, contribute to keeping data secure and protected, and increase availability for the customers," explained
Koppolu.
There is an exponential growth in the amount of data being stored and the use of storage that has resulted in new challenges for customers like managing stored data, reducing cost of ownership and ensuring continuous availability. Feature rich robust file systems and databases are the foundation that enable data to be turned into valuable business information.
This creation of a group at Microsoft's IDC will help drive the overall enterprise storage division strategy and complement the US development center in developing new technologies and solutions to solve some of the critical storage management problems.
