Microsoft Corporation introduced its anti-piracy program-The Genuine Wind-ows
'How to Tell' campaign. Aimed at educating the Indian consumer, the campaign
enu-merates two distinct identi-fiable features to ascertain the authenticity of
the operating system in the PC-the Certifi-cate of Authenticity and the
Edge-to-Edge hologram CD.

Further, a PC pre-loaded with a Genuine Microsoft Windows XP will have a COA
label atta-ched to the body of the PC (CPU). An Edge-to-Edge Hologram CD
features a three-dimensional holographic image over the entire surface of the
CD. This holographic image is part of the CD itself. It is not a sticker, and
makes it easier to identify Genuine Windows XP. Also, consumers can run an easy
validation check to find out whether their Windows XP operating system is
genuine by visiting www.microsoft.com/genuine.

Commenting on the launch of the Genuine Windows Cam-paign, Rishi Srivastava,
Business Group Lead, Microsoft India, said, "According to our estima-tes,
40 percent consumers do not know that buying a branded PC does not ensure that
the operating system coming along with it is also genuine. This campaign is
aimed at edu-cating these consumers and empowering them with the right
information so that when they go and buy a computer they in-sist on genuine MS
software."
