Memorable movies of 2014

Bollywood the term use for Hindi movies produces hundreds of movies each year and it is one of the largest film industries in the world. Every year to choose a great movie differ as sometime it is chosen by the story where as sometime by direction and now in 2014 the rating phenomenon has  adapted 2 phases. ’What people like’ and ‘how much collection did they make’.

Queen

The year kick-start with many movies but none of the movie pleased the audiences untill March when Queen was up in the theatre and hit the box office. It is a comedy-drama film directed by Vikas Bahl and produced by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane. The film stars Kangana Ranaut in the lead role, with Lisa Haydon and Rajkummar Rao playing supporting roles. This was one movie where without a huge star-cast and only with a leading lady ‘Kangna Ranaut’ the movie did its business of Rs.98.2 crore.

Then in the month of April the much awaited Cheten Bhagat novel based movie 2 States released. The genre of the movie was romantic comedy and did a block buster business. This movie was directed by Abhishek Verman and produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala . The star cast of the movie was Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt the new talent of Bollywood, who did an excellent job in this movie and made a mark of its own and did a business of Rs. 101.61 crore.

HOLIDAY

After that in the month of June Holiday: A Soldier Is Never off Duty released which is an action thriller film written and directed by A.R. Murugadoss, and produced by Vipul Shah. The movies was a block-buster and did a business of Rs. 112.65 crore. This movie featured Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles, along with Govinda, Freddy Daruwala and Sumeet Raghavan in supporting roles.

Ek Villian

On the same month another movie hit the box office named Ek Villain, which is a romantic thriller film directed by Mohit Suri. The film featured Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles and tells the story of a cynical criminal whose terminally ill wife is murdered by a serial killer. The film was produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under Balaji Motion Pictures and ALT Entertainment. The movie did an awesome business of 105.50 crore and once again Ekta Kapoor proved that she is not only the queen of small screen but she can be the queen of big screen too.

In July Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania released which is a romantic-comedy film the film was directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar. The film features Varun Dhawan as Humpty Sharma, Alia Bhatt as Kavya Pratap Singh in the lead roles. The movie reminds of DDLJ and another movie based on marriage and love triangle. The movie did a business of Rs. 78.09 crore.

Singham_Returns_

Singham Returns is an action film directed by Rohit Shetty and produced by Reliance Entertainment.  It is a sequel of 2011 Singham, with the same lead actor Ajay Devgan from the previous film, as well as co-producing the project, while Kareena Kapoor Khan plays the female lead. It is an action movie directed by Rohit Shetty. The film did a good business and had a business of Rs. 139.96 crore.

Bang BangIn the month of October the much awaited movie Bang Bang released it’s an action thriller film directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Fox Star Studios. The film is an official remake of the Hollywood film Knight and Day and features Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles and the main antagonist of the film is Danny Denzongpa. The movie did a good business of Rs. 181.03 crore.

haider-And on the same month Haider released in Indian screen which is a Crime Drama film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, and co-written by Basharat Peer and Bhardwaj. It stars Shahid Kapoor who has done a brilliant role as the titular protagonist. The other co-stars Tabu, Shraddha Kapoor and Kay Kay Menon also did a great job, with Irrfan Khan making a special appearance. The film is a modern day adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet, and also shows Kashmir conflicts of 1995 and civilian disappearances. Haider, a poet, returns to Kashmir at the peak of the conflict to seek answers about his disappeared father and ends up tugged into the politics of the state and the movie did a business of Rs. 170 crore.

Even though many great movies released in 2014 but a year can’t get over without a block buster hit from Salman Khan. Kick is an action-thriller film directed and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under his Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment banner. The film features Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Randeep Hooda in the lead role and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, portraying the main enemy of the film. The film is a remake of the Telugu film of the same name, with a screenplay adapted by Nadiadwala and Chetan Bhagat. The film did a business of Rs. 216.84 crore.

Happy New Year is an action-heist comedy film directed by Farah Khan and produced by Gauri Khan under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment. The film has a group cast, which includes Shahrukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood, Vivaan Shah and Jackie Shroff the movie did a great business with Rs. 178 crore.

The last movie in the Khan war is the movie Aamir Khan’s PK which is a comedy-drama film directed by Rajkumar Hirani, produced by Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Siddharth Roy Kapur, and written by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi. The film stars Aamir Khan in the title role, with Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Irani, Saurabh Shukla, and Sanjay Dutt in supporting roles. The film did a very good business and within a week it entered the hundred crore business even though the movie is still up on screen the profit that they made is Rs. 230 crore and still more to go.

So, we have seen that 2014 did not disappoint us in terms of great movies so let us see what it holds for us in 2015.
