a service-based national
sales and distribution company across channels like imaging,
electronics, IT and telecom, has forayed into the mobile handset
business with the launch of its new range of mobile phones in the
Indian market. It was the first company to launch cameras in India in
the year 1991 and since then, it has built up on its successes with
20 offices across the country. From being a sales and distribution
company to launching its own brand of products, MCC has tasted all.
Today, it has various products in its kitty including DVD players,
home theaters, digital cameras, and the latest entrant are the mobile
phones.
Ajay
Mehta, MD, MCC Group, said, “Since we had the privilege of
handling some big brands in the country, we found that their
businesses were very erratic and not stable. They would often have a
sudden change of strategy. So, once we built up our distribution
system, we decided to go ahead and do our own branding. Thus, we
started our own brands of products and we have established them quite
successfully in the Indian market. And that's why we also took the
step of launching our own range of mobile phones, which is the highly
competitive but fast business.”
“Mobile phones are taking a lot of
our attention and since we have a fairly large distribution network,
we can remain close to our customers at any given
time. We are already aggressively leveraging our sales and
distribution system for promoting and taking the mobile phones to the
India market. We would currently have around 100 distributors and
close to 5,000 to 7,000 retailers with whom we are doing business
across the country,” added Mehta. In order to promote its brand of
mobile phones, MCC is focusing on state markets, including the B and
C-class cities like Coimbatore, sub-urban areas of Chennai, Siliguri,
Gujarat, Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Punjab, Haryana, and Raipur
amongst others. For the company's partners, it has
brought opportunity in terms of selling quality products and leading to
a sustainable business. And since MCC has other products in kitty
as well, partners get a chance to work on other range of products
also and not just the mobile phones and that's where it becomes a
profitable proposition for the channel partners, wherein through one
window, they can sell an array of products. The company also has some
interesting schemes going on in this pre-Diwali season for the
channel partners, wherein on every 11 pieces of mobile phones, the
dealer/retailer is getting a home theater system, which is again an
MCC brand.
Meanwhile, in the current fiscal, MCC
is targeting around Rs 100 crore from the mobile handset business and
in the next fiscal, it is running for about Rs 250 crore. It also
believes that in the next three years time, this business would be
giving about 60 to 70 percent of the company's overall revenue. “If
we hit the target of Rs 100 crore, we will then grow by 100 percent.
Furthermore, we want to consolidate our position in the range of
products that we are dealing with. Our intention is to hit about Rs
1,000 crore sales in about four to five years down the line. The
tier-2 market has a huge growth potential and we will definitely ride
on our success,” concluded Mehta.
