Maxtone Electronics is looking at local manufacturing HIS motherboards, to make the product more price competitive. "Because of low failures and increasing popularity of HIS brand motherboards in India we recently increased the warranty period from one year to two years. Now, I think, we are popular enough to start local manufacturing," Said Champakraj

Gurjar, MD.

By doing so, Maxtone hopes to save on duties and bring down the cost of motherboards. HIS motherboards are priced slightly higher than their immediate competitors-Kobian and D-Link-Gigabyte.

"In the last few years we have proved that the quality and affordability of HIS motherboards are excellent. And this has made us popular in the western parts of the country," said Gurjar. In the next few months, Maxtone intends to expand its reach to the southern and northern regions of the country.

It is exploring various alternatives to get the boards 'contract manufactured' to putting SMT lines of its own, or getting some Taiwanese company to invest here. The plant is most likely to be set up in Daman. Currently, the company gets it

motherboards manufactured from contract manufacturers in Taiwan and China.

Maxtone introduced the HIS brand in India nine years ago after tying up with a Hong Kong-based company, Hitech Information Services. However, Maxtone claims to have taken over the brand from this company some three years ago and is independently promoting it in India.

Along with the HIS brand, Maxtone also has the Maxforce range of addon cards, which Champakraj hopes to manufacture here.
