Mamidanna quits as head of Ingram Micro India

After serving nearly three years as the President and CEO of Ingram Micro
India Pvt Ltd, Singapore-based Prasad Mamidanna has decided to call it a day and
set up his own venture in Singapore itself.

Confirming the report to CyberMedia News, the man who had led the company
from the forefront and grew the operation 300 percent annually with revenues
exceeding $ 300 million, he said that April 16 would be his last day in office
at Ingram. He, however, declined to give any further details of his future
plans.

With Mamidanna’s departure, some top-management level restructuring within
Ingram has also happened. Singapore-based KN Sahni who was earlier the President
and CEO of Ingram India, is again taking up this responsibility for the time
being. This is in addition to his existing responsibility of being the head of
the components business of Ingram in Asia. In addition, SP Rajguru who was the
Acting COO of Ingram India, has now been confirmed as the COO. He will continue
to be based at Chennai.

Mamidanna is credited with establishing Ingram India as a major provider of
IT products and services with nationwide presence throughout India. The company
has consistently been ranked in the Dataquest Top-20 companies in India.

As Acting MD for Ingram Micro Australia, he also managed the restructuring of
business and established a new strategic direction for the operations besides
hiring a new MD.

Mamidanna was responsible for the launch and growth of global industry brands
like Quantum, Intel, Microsoft, HP, Sony, Cisco and Samsung for Ingram in India.
Under his leadership the Indian operations has won numerous vendor awards from
Quantum, Lucent, Samsung, Tandberg and Intel. The company also won industry
awards like Dataquest Top Growth Company in 1998.

During his tenure, Ingram India successfully expanded into computer systems,
workstations, software, networking products and storage sub-systems with
distribution rights from Compaq, IBM, Sun, Apple, HP, 3Com, Lucent, Cisco,
Nortel, Microsoft, Veritas, NAI and APC.

Starting his career at ACI in Santa Clara, US in 1982, Mamidanna held various
positions at the company and left it as VP and GM in 1988 to set up Spectra
Innovations in 1989. He was instrumental in rapidly growing this San Jose,
California-based company into a significant player in the semi-conductor and RF
components and storage products business in India.

The company’s computer products group was subse-quently acquired by Ingram
Micro in 1999 and was rena-med Ingram Micro India. This operation is now a part
of Ingram Micro Inc, world’s largest wholesale provider of technology products
and services with revenues exceeding $ 30 billion and with 14,000 associates
worldwide.

Mamidanna was also the founder of Amspec (S) Pte Ltd, a distribution
operation, which was acquired by Electronic Resources Ltd, later acquired by
Ingram Micro Inc. He established Specsoft Consulting Inc, a software services
company with customers including Cisco, HP, Auspex, Adaptec and 3Com. This
operation with a team of over 70 plus consultants was successfully sold to
Aptech International in early 1999.
