Major NB brands cut prices to encourage sale of dual core NBs

In order to stimulate the purchase of dual core NB, Intel
has joined with major NB brands to initiate the price down in Q1. It is
estimated to lead the dual core NB in mainstream price range and some models
were even lower than US$1,000. Currently, Dell and HP both cut 10 percent
components price to suppliers and traded with greater purchasing amount with
growth of 15 percent to 20 percent in Q2. NB industrials indicated that the
demand of global NB in Q1 was high. Moreover, branded NB adjusted the inventory
that Dell and HP did present a good fiscal report of Q1. It also affected OEM
partners. Quanta and Compal both saw the increase of orders from March. When the
price-down initiated, it would also drive the global NB growth. When the dual
core NB average selling price (ASP) was still above NT$50,000, NB industrials
estimated that the high ASP arena will end in Q2.
