Joining hands to combat the hardware counterfeiting market in India, IT
companies like HP, Canon, Epson, Logitech and Intel have teamed up with MAIT to
set up the IT Anti-Counterfeit Coali-tion (ISAAC) in India. This announcement
was made at the MAIT workshop in Mumbai on December 13, 2003.

Long and short term
objectives

  • Conduct regular training workshops, seminars and
interactive sessions involving Judicial and enforcement authorities to
create awareness on counterfeiting in India.

  • Lobby with the government for facilitating
regulation/changes to assist anti counterfeiting operation in India
and change the existing legal framework. The IT Committee will also
prepare agendas setting out the focus areas/issues on which the
    government needs to act.

  • Cross-platform activity involving other sectors of
IT hardware industry may be considered.

  • Initiating state governments to agree to work
    towards making their state piracy-free.

  • Establish economic offence enforcement cells in police departments
    across states.

According to MAIT, the coalition will work closely with the industry and the
govern-ment by formulating strategies that are aimed at curbing counterfeiting
of IT products in the country from the grass-root level upward–thereby protec-ting
consumer interest. The coalition also aims to under-take special initiatives for
Judicial and enforcement auth-orities to ensure awareness against counterfeiting
in the country.
