UP had been focusing on Noida and Greater Noida for over a decade now. This focused destination has already paid rich dividends with this state being considered as the second largest software exporter in the country. However, business activities in Noida, are considered as an extension of industrialization in Delhi. Currently, Noida contributes around 99.5 percent of total software exports from the state.
Recently, the state government has begun chalking plans to develop Lucknow and Kanpur as twin cyber cities in line with Noida as these two cities boast of a major chunk of human resources capital and prestigious educational and scientific research organizations like IIT, IIM, HBTI, IIIT and others.
GB Pattanaik, Secretary IT and Electronics government of UP said, " The government is committed to making Lucknow a 'smart city' and it will be done within the next four months."
There is also good news for other cities like Banaras and Allahabad too. The software Technology Park of India (STPI) would open two branches in these cities. SK Agarwal, director, STPI, stated this. He added, "These will be a part of the state-owned company's new strategy for smaller cities. STPI is currently planning to open six more STPs in the country, with one coming up in Jammu soon. Interestingly, STP in Lucknow is doing brisk business and recorded a turnover of Rs 10 crore in the last fiscal.
