Electronics unveiled their new range of GSM phones,
in a bid to grow by 300 percent in the GSM business in 2006. The comÂpany
launched four new handsets equipped with MP3 player with DJ repeat effect and
external memory card slot, which can be upgraded to 1 GB.
With the launch LG has a
total of 15 GSM handsets for the Indian market. This year, the company is
planning to launch 18 handsets, which would enable them to conÂsolidate its
position further in the GSM handset market.
“This year we would focus
on providing value proposiÂtion to upgrade existing basic and mid-end
consumer,” said HS Bhatia, Product Group Head (GSM). The company is at number
five position in the GSM market and targets to occupy number three posiÂtion
before the year-end.
“LG is committed to
increasing its dealer network in 2006 and wants to almost double its network
from 11,000 GSM dealers to 20,000 GSM dealers by December 2006,” Bhatia said.
Product Marketing (DDM), Deba Ghoshal said that LG is
targeting to sell 1.5 million handsets this year. Speaking about the future
opportuÂnity, Ghoshal said that almost 15 million handsets of Mono Segment are
available for upgrade in 2006. “Our strategy would be to change the way
consumers look at mobiles phones,” Ghoshal added.
