LG launches Sonoma based notebooks

LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd has announced the launch of exclusive range of
notebooks, based on Sonoma platform. The models LM60/LM70/LS70/LW60/LW70 in
express series are equipped with a Dothan CPU, which supports 533MHz FSB and is
equipped with 2MB of L2 cache, Mobile Intel 915 express chipset, Azalia 24bit
audio, supports DDRII memory and Intel WLAN as standard features. LW series
comes with Wide Screen, Remote Control and Instant On feature as add-on
features.

According to the company, one of the key feature in these notebooks is the
ATI Mobility Radeon X600 graphics card, which supports upto 128MB of graphics
memory and a PCI Express interface. Additionally the LW Express series and the
LS70 Express series come with DVD Super Multi Drive. It supports dual layer,
recording data on a DVD (8.5GB approx), which is equivalent to the capacity of
12 CD-ROMs. More-over the Super Multi Drive can support most of the DVD formats.

The price range for these notebooks is between Rs 95,000 to Rs 1,25,000.

Commenting about its man-ufacturing plans, R Manikandan, GM, LGEIL sales and
marketing (IT products) said, "We have a full-fledged backward integra-tion
system where in we import our products from Korea. However, we are contemplating
the possibilities of undertaking local manufacturing of IT products from our
existing plant in Noida. We are carrying on the feasibility studies and are
exploring the possibilities."

With robust sales, the company is also targeting an increase in the turnover.
LG India had recorded revenues of Rs 6,500 for the fiscal year 2004 and is
targeting Rs 9,500 for the next fiscal. Started in 1997, the company has
recorded Rs 125 crore and since then its been growing year-on-year. The
contribution of IT division for the year 2004 was pegged at Rs 650 crore and the
same is slated to touch Rs 1,100 crore this year there by contributing 12
percent to the total revenues.
