dealers in Bareilly have
probably become the target of a gang of thieves in the area. There
have been some cases of laptop thefts that have been reported in the
last few days. But, unfortunately, the police is clueless and have
made no headway into the matter. Speaking to The DQ Week,
Gautam Saxena, President, Bareilly Computer Dealers Welfare
Association(BCDWA) said that four-five such cases have come to the
forefront within the last few weeks. The partners have already met
local police officials, including the DIG of Bareilly, who has
assured them of all possible help.
Dell's pink colored, Inspiron 15"
was stolen on March 24 from Deep Distributors at the city's IT market
at Butler Plaza. The footage was captured in the CCTV installed in
the shop that clearly showed a young boy stealing the laptop. "We
have already given the footage and related pictures to police
officials in Shubashnagar police station but to no avail. Despite
assurance, no action has been initiated till now," said Deep
Distributor's DN Joshi.

N148 netbook was stolen from
Computer Aid in the city on March 21. It was recovered from a small
town, Pooranpur in Pilibhit, thanks to the cautious efforts of the
dealer, Sanjay Gupta. "A couple of young guys came in the
afternoon on the pretext of purchasing speakers, and they stole it.
We alerted the market and the adjoining areas and circulated the
serial number. After a couple of weeks, I got a call from Empire
Computers in Pooranpur. We found out that someone was looking for the
very netbook's adapter," he said. They recovered the netbook,
and later informed the police.
According to Gupta, a police team has
been formed to further probe into such matters but is apparently
clueless. In a more recent case, a Toshiba laptop was stolen from the
nearby Badaun on April 7. Rajiv Sabharwal, DIG, Bareilly range
refused to comment, when contacted over phone.
