Kota is a fascinating mixture of medieval grandeur and modern industrialization. Situated 230 km south of Jaipur, Kota has one

of the most interesting forts in India and a city palace. An impressive fort stands like a sentinel over the present day Chambal Valley Project with its many dams-Kota Barrage, Gandhi Sagar, Rana Pratap Sagar and Jawahar Sagar. While an old palace, dating back to the time when Kota was part of the Hada Rajput fiefdom Harawati or Hadoti overlooks the Kota Barrage on the turbulent Chambal river. Kota was originally part of the Bundi Rajput kingdom, but became a separate state in 1624. In course of time Kota came to be regarded as a hallmark of Rajput power and culture.

The best part of the City Palace is the Maharoa Madro Singh Museum. The entrance to the museum is through Hathian Pol, an ornate gateway with a brass cannon and painted elephants on either side. To the right is the Raj Mahal, which has excellent mirror work and is intricately painted. On the left are many exhibits, such as statues, silver waterpipes, instruments, clocks, vases, and chess sets. There are excellent Kota Kamba, painted miniature figures that are a local specialty, and a good weapons exhibit Durbar Hall has mirror work, ebony and Ivory inlaid doors, and contains a wealth of Rajput miniatures of the Kota School. There are the royal cenotaphs, a haveli (stately home) with delicate frescoes, the Brijraj Bhawan Palace and an island palace-Jag Mandir-gracious remainders of a bygone age.

An amazing example of majestic medieval age and modern industrialization, Kota is no doubt a rich heritage of impressive forts, opulent palaces and splendid temples of past centuries. This has attracted tourists from all over the world. Its present-day edifices and heavy industries have made it the industrial heartland of Rajasthan Kota is now emerging as an important industrial center. It boasts of Asia's largest fertilizer plant, precision instrument unit and atomic power station nearby.

Rajasthan has what it takes to turn an industrial blue print into reality in a short span of time. The state organizations, the policy environment, the well-developed industrial areas make it possible to see through the largest of business plans. We also have a Single Window system, which smoothens the procedural issues on the way to invest in Rajasthan. The Bureau of Investment Promotion specializes in removing all hurdles, if at all, on the road to industrialization. It obtains all clearances as well as infrastructure inputs for setting up projects. It is also the nodal agency for NRIs and other foreign investors, that would help in locating Indian partners.
