Kerala woos German IT, telecom companies

A Kerala IT delegation led by Industries Minister PK Kunhalikutty currently in Germany has held discussions with leading German telecom and IT companies to enhance the visibility of the state as a major IT hub in the region.

The delegation held talks with Deutsche Telecom, Dresdner Bank, Baurer Infotech, Siemens and Navision to explore the possibility of investments in the state. Kerala also took part in the BITKOM India meet held in association with Nasscom. BITCOM is an umbrella organization representing 1,250 German information, communication and technology companies.

According to the IT Minister's office here, some firms had shown interest in investing in the state.

The Kerala delegation has tried the market the state as an ideal destination in view of the increased bandwidth availability, low set up costs, manpower availability, other infrastructure such as airports, sea ports etc. Among the companies likely to invest in Technopark are BNR-AG and Kedia Software. The firms are likely to begin operations from next the financial year, the officials said.

The state government will sign a MoU with BITCM for formalizing the agreement by companies to invest in the state, the officials added.
