Now Kerala is all set to become India's first 100 percent computer literate state. Kerala has unveiled its statewide dual-initiative that will impart basic computer education to high school students as well as teachers. The state government has tied up with Intel to train the school teachers. Intel consultants will use their tailored curriculum to impart the requisite IT skills to the teachers. Simultaneously, the IT@School program will train 15 lakh high school students from over 2600 schools across the state over two years.
"This is an ambitious project, as have been our previous undertakings, and Kerala will spare no effort to ensure that we meet our goal," said AK Antony, Chief Minister of Kerala, during the launch.
The Kerala IT literacy campaign is in keeping with the overall vision of the State to establish itself as the primary IT destination in India. The state intends to leverage its vast pool of skill-upgradable and highly literate human resource along with unsurpassable communication infrastructure to this end.
The Minister for Information Technology PK Kunhalikutty said that the IT@School program is the first step towards creating a sustainable pool of talents equipped with critical IT skills, so necessary for the sustenance of the IT industry in this region. The initiative also aims to improve the overall quality of education using IT as a tool.
