As the Kerala state government has made it mandatory for the dealers to start
e-filing of their returns from January 2009. In this regard, Cochin-based All
Kerala Computer Manufacturers and Dealers Association (AKCMDA) floated a mail to
help partners easily understand the steps involved in filing the returns. The
mail is stated to reach all the dealers across the state, irrespective of the
associations.

“This mail is based on the manual available on the sales tax website and
suitably modified for easy understanding of IT dealers. An IT dealer has to get
in touch with their respective sales tax office for getting their password. The
user name will be their TIN number and the dealers can make use of the test
facility on the website, if they want to do experiments before doing the actual
e-filing (http://comtax.kerala. gov.in/web/iCOMITRAX/loginRPS.jsp). However
while actually entering data, they can delete or modify any data until they take
the printout of Form 10,” said PK Harikrishnan, President, AKCMDA.

He also said that before going for the e-filing, the partners can download
the invoice format from http://comtax.kerala.gov.in/web/iCOMITRAX/Main.jsp for
making statement of all purchase and sales, and enter to keep ready with all
details for the month fully entered and validated.

“The dealers should read the manual fully before attempting to e-file. The
manual is made, especially for an IT dealer who makes mostly local purchase to
sell to end-user/dealer,” Harikrishnan informed.

Claiming that e-filing would be easy for those partners who maintain proper
accounts, he said that AKCMDA initiated this step as many of the dealers
wouldn't be able to file their sales returns without the help of consultants.
“All this process would be difficult for the first time and people would get
used to it as it has become mandatory,” he quipped.

Commenting on this initiative, TP Suresh, CEO, Emerge Digitech, Kannur said
that the initiative by AKCMDA will make the process simpler for the IT dealers,
as the procedures listed are customized to IT dealers. “E-filing initiative will
save much time for the dealers. AKCMDA has made it simpler and I have forwarded
the information to the people whom I know in the Kerala market,” said Suresh.

M Vinodkumar, President, Malabar IT Dealers Association applauded this
initiative of AKCMDA for making the process much simpler. “It is a good step
taken for helping the partners. But the dealers feel that the website is too
slow and certain entries are difficult. The state government must ensure that
proper traffic control mechanism for the site is carried out,” Vinodkumar
claimed.
