Jhansi in festive mode!

Located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Jhansi, first known as Shankargarh, is termed as the gateway to Bundelkhand. The city grew in popularity during the reign of the Marathas because of the heroics of its valiant queen, Rani Lakshmi Bai.

The city boasts of the East-West, and the North-South corridors connecting Kashmir and Kanyakumari. And the route has made the place a hub real estate and infrastructure sectors. That apart, Jhansi also scores high when it comes to industrial activities, especially because of places like Bundelkhand and Southern Uttar Pradesh. Major industrial units like stone crushing, fabrication and furnace can be found in the region. Also, refrigeration units and several iron and steel mills are located in the nearby regions.

Th city has been faring well in the IT sector too. At a time when most of the cities are experiencing a dull phase in terms of information technology market, Jhansi has been an exception with some respite. The city's IT market has been on a high in the last two months. According to dealers, the ongoing festive season and the end of holidays have played a major role for the good market. " Market has been good. We have been doing good business since last two months," says Jitendra Maheshwari of Comtech Computers. Mayadevi Aggarwal, CEO, Hari Computers also expressed similar views saying that the business generally picks up from June with the commencement of the festive season.

Talking about the growth verticals, the market gets in maximum business from SME and education, followed by SOHO. "SME and education fetch us maximum business, while SOHO also contributes its bit," said Maheshwari. The channel partner also informed that laptops have been the best selling IT product of the market with Dell scoring well when it comes to brands.

The market also has an active computer association with the name 'Bundelkhand Computer Association'. While the body plays lesser role in solving vendor-dealer problems, since the dealers say the market does not face many such issues, it is quite active in organizing various social events like get-togethers or camps.

The Jhansi IT market, which has an annual turnover of around Rs 50 crore, hopes to do well in the future too. "We wish to do good business in the coming times as well since there has been more focus on C and D cities," said Maheshwari. Aggarwal also said, " I think the business is going to get better in the future and we will get good business."
