New Update

In what is seen as a surprising move, the Department of Higher Education, Government of Madhya Pradesh, has banned private colleges from running IT courses in the state. Now, only the state varsities have been empowered to offer IT courses following the Committee's recommendations.

The move comes in the wake of recommendations made by a committee formed on the advice of Coordination Committee of Universities, which took note of the lack of infrastructure and inadequate educational standards in private institutions, following a thorough review of the same in the state.

The Committee made its recommendations to the Ministry of Higher Education, government of MP, which subsequently decided to ban IT courses in private institutions. It is believed that the committee was less than satisfied with the standards of teaching in private institutions, after conducting a survey in various parts of the state. Some institutions offering these courses were found not to have even computers in their premises, while some did not have adequate faculty strength to teach IT subjects to enrolled students.

The ban is seen as an acknowledgement of the deteriorating standards in IT education in the state, which has seen a rash of small-time private institutions open shop on shoe-string budgets without any or little investment in hardware or quality education. An example of this syndrome is the last week's protest by students of WinTech Computers, Bhopal, wherein the Anil Bali, Centre Manager, was manhandled by the students following sub-standard education and irregular classes at the center.
