Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand is positioned between the Himalayan foothills and the Shivaliks. This town offers breathtaking scenery and is situated at an altitude of 2,200 feet above sea level in the Doon Valley. It is located between two of the most important rivers in India, Ganga and Yamuna.
Dehradun has witnessed growth in the last 20 years. The city is in middle of a commercial and IT boom, which has increased by the establishment of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and various SEZs that exist throughout the city. The construction of Delhi-Dehradun four lane highway is a boon to the city. It is expected that more economic development will take place at a much wider scale in the city now. Dehradun is the headquarter for ONGC, which is India's largest oil company.
Nitin Jain, CEO, Dreamzcraft Info Solutions mentioned, “In the last two months, the market trends have shown a decline in sales as our business has a major reliance on the education segment, which has registered a significant slowdown this year. Unstability in HP systems has also lead to loss of many major accounts.”
According to Arvind Mittal, CEO, Rans Electronics, “These days customers need immediate delivery of products. They demand colorful laptops, as these look more trendy and add to a style statement also.” Speaking about new trends in the market, Jain
pointed out that the trends seem to be more towards creating value for the business. They have to be inclined towards giving valuable solutions to customers rather than just selling clean boxes.
These are more dependent towards the consumer segment. According to Mittal, “Major problems related to vendors are that there is no sales support. Service issues corresponding to all the brands are very slow. The customer is not ready to wait and the companies take a lot of time with service repair issues.” He further added, “We face a lot of payment issues while dealing with the customers like, we cannot take cash as there is a risk of duplicate currency. We do not accept cheques, because out of ten, three gets bounced. Also we cannot take payment by credit or debit cards since our margin is not even one percent, whereas the bank asks for two percent commission. And giving away products on credit basis is practically not possible as we are never sure that the payment will be made to us or not.”
Mittal further added, “Brands like Dell, Lenovo, HP, HCL and Acer are the top selling brands. These are gradually capturing the market.” According to Jain, “Top selling products in the market are client virtulization: HP Multi seat and N-computing, laptops, anti-virus solutions.”
