In a joint effort, Intel and Microsoft have turned personal
computers into digital toys. Many personal computer manufacturers are ready to
launch their PC adopting UMPC (ultra mobile PC). This UMPC has brought more
business opportunities for Taiwanese PC OEM manufacturers. iPod has stormed
the global 3C product market with a rising stock price. Given the current drop
in its stock price, Intel has decided to transform itself from a PC giant into a
3C giant targeting on mobile consumer products. Intel has launched its UMPC
jointly developed with Microsoft in IDF on March 7. UMPC adopts Microsoft's Windows
XP operating system. It is part of Microsoft's Origami Plan and is deemed as
the by products of Tablet PC. Bill Gates, Chairman, Microsoft's has mentioned
the Origami Plan in a discussion forum held in Seattle.
