Jayant Murthy, Director (Marketing) for Intel, South Asia, elaborated on the
features of the new Dothan processors, which include improvements in
manufacturing, use of strained silicon wafers for better performance, doubling
the number of transistors while keeping the power consump-tion the same, power
efficient cache memory and architec-tural enhancements.

The new processors come a year after Intel introduced its Centrino
processors, which featured power efficient performance with wireless
capabilities. The Dothan processors enable the use of many wireless applications
such as watching live video, CNBC’s Wireless Traveler and on air
entertainment.

Ramesh Babu, Director (Sales and Marketing) for Intel, South Asia, admitted
that there were challenges with wireless technology in India such as, the lack
of wireless penetration, high price of laptops and preference of desktops over
laptops. But he was confident that the cost differential was narrowing, which
could lead to a shift to laptops.
