The monitors market in
India is poised for a healthy growth and is expected to touch six
million units by FY 2010-11. The manufacturers are investing heavily
in R&D and leveraging innovative display technology to stay
ahead. Korea-based LG will be launching the world's thinnest OLED
that will support both 2D and 3D display modes, with 2D mode running
at a 600Hz refresh rate. ViewSonic, a display manufacturer has
announced that its PC displays will feature Light Emitting Diode
(LED) technology by early 2011.

Display technology with a focus
on energy-efficiency is expected to rule the market as the consumers
are increasingly looking at

it as a value-addition. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitors are
available in various architectures, however, the Twisted Nematic (TN)
technology is available in the generic LCD architecture.

large monitor and panel manufacturers are in the product development
phase with new technologies. We will witness a revolution soon in
image clarity, 3D imaging and affordability," said Kaustuv Ray,
RP Infosystems. India has always been receptive to new technologies
specially when it is green and lower TCO. 3D display technology has
already found its way in the industry. LG in India has recently come
up with 3D display range and the company is expected to add two more
display products to its existing portfolio.

Mukesh Gupta,
Director-AOC, TPV Technology said, “Technology wise 'green' is
the latest trend. LED monitors are the buzz with a lot of focus on
low power consumption and environmental friendly products. According
to Gupta, the non bundled market is also doing fine in spite of a
very tough competition from bundled market. By far AOC is doing good
in the market with 21.5 percent market share in Q1 of 2010 and is
continuously maintaining a 20 percent YoY growth.” LG on the other
hand is investing in the development of new range of products and has
earmarked five percent of the total revenue on R&D activities. R
Manikandan, Senior GM and Business Head-B2B Solutions, LGEIL said
that the new companies are going to launch new products in this space
but LG is focusing on value addition.

Gautam Ghosh, Country
Manager, ViewSonic Technologies India said, the high-end or
technology-led product categories are doing better in the Indian
market and this is the reason that they expect better acceptance for
the LED product category in the Indian market. "There is also
another technology moving great in Indian market which is the 3D
technology. This will be the next big thing in the display technology
in the coming days. Next would be the interactive technology for
projectors. This will change the teaching and learning scenario
forever,” quoted Ghosh. “There seems to be inclination towards
bigger and slimmer monitors. However, the purchase trend in bundle PC
has shifted from CRT displays to LCD and LED displays,” he added.

Govindan Ramanujam, MD, BenQ India feels that the new technology
which have been introduced in Indian market is LED back-lit monitors,
which create a new benchmark for aesthetics, energy saving and
environmentally friendly monitors. BenQ will be introducing new VA
panel based LED monitors very shortly in the Indian market. "The
metro-markets have a favorable disposition towards branded PCs but
owing to the needs and usage pattern of urban customers the
requirement of a high-end monitor or multimedia monitor with superior
I/O connectivity options are required," added Ramanujam. The
non-metro customer is upwardly mobile and the demand for a basic LCD
Monitor is more in this segment asthese are affordable and high on
utility and are value for money.
