Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management - Kerala (IIITMK) modeled on such type of institutes set up else where in the country is expected to play a pivotal role in the IT revolution in
Kerala.
The institute has plans to establish a linkage between IT industry and IIITMK, which is being christened technopartnership. To develop entrepreneurship among IT students, a center for Entrepreneurship Development and Incubation has been set up in the institute, according to KPP Nambiar, Chairman of IIITMK and Dr KR Srivathsan, Director, IIITMK. The objective is to provide training to entrepreneurs, develop suitable manpower for industry, provide ideas and technical know-how to entrepreneurs and modernization of existing industry.
IIITMK has identified four long-term projects for the development of IT in the state the prime among them being the Educational Grid project. This includes establishment of online linkages with colleges and educational institutions through wide area networking (WAN). IIITMK is also embarking on a pilot telemedicine project titled Pilot Telehealth and Medical Informatics Initiative. This is being undertaken in collaboration with Sreechitra Medical Center, Regional Cancer Center. It will enable patients in remote parts of the state access to the best health care facilities.
