The first phase will include 4,000 schools followed by 2,000 government schools in the second phase

To bring e-learning to schools, an E-Vidyalaya program has been launched by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Odisha Madhyamik Sikshya Mission (OMSM) is the primary body behind the start of ICT@school scheme of E-Vidyalaya program. The program is set to reach schools in two phases. The first phase will include 4,000 schools followed by 2,000 government schools in the second phase. An amount of Rs 746 crore has been allocated for the establishment of the project followed by adequate training of teachers to execute the operation of the program.

The ICT Labs set in schools will help students learn beyond the traditional books. High end technologies like computer, interactive board, projector, televisions and audio-visual facilities have been installed in the schools which have started with the program. The number stands at 187 schools at present. The e-content has bee prepared by Odisha Knowledge Corporation Limited (OKCL) for the classes 8 and 9 in different subjects.

Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Human Resource Development of India has created this ICT in Schools Scheme. The aim is to provide equal technological opportunities of learning to those communities which are geographically, socially and economically backward.
