In a move to further expand its scope of alliance with independent software
vendors (ISVs), IBM India intends bringing them closer to its SI partners to
work on newer applications for important verticals. IBM currently works with
nearly 100 ISVs in the country, which deve-lop a wide ra-nge of soft-ware
appli-cation to ad-dress specific needs of va-rious indus-try verticals.

The com-pany now wants these ISVs to collaborate with various solution
providers, so that the latter can make his solution offering, more
comprehensive. Mark L Hanny, VP (ISV allian-ces), IBM, said, "SIs have an
excellent understanding of the verticals that they address. By being able to
provide appli-cations tailor-made for these verticals only increases their value
proposition and adds to their profitability."

According to him, the SIs would be encouraged to work closely with the ISV
and develo-per community so that, more and more customized applica-tions could
be provided to the customers in different verticals. "These applications
could be related to wireless and mobility, CRM, ERP and many other promising
areas," he added.

Hanny feels that BFSI, retail, telcos, government and PSUs are some of the
most promising verticals where, both SIs and ISVs can work together to provide
solutions. "For this, not only we have a worldwide event called
PartnerWorld, wherein we get the ISVs and SI partners together, but we have a
local version of the event in India as well to help bring these two communities
on a single platform," informed Chetan Yardi, Regional Manager (ISV and
Developer Relations - ASEAN/SA), IBM India.
