IBM and Indraprastha University (IU) have signed a strategic alliance wherein
the company would provide free software to the university to train the students
in IBM technologies. IBM would also train the faculty on these technologies and
provide appropriate support as and when needed.
The alliance with IBM would enable Indraprashtra University to incorporate
educational programs on IBM software technologies to support the main course
curriculum and electives or projects within the framework of the university
syllabus.
Under this program, colleges affiliated to the university will offer 10
projects to students on IBM software programs. On completion of this program
students would be qualified to take the IBM certification tests although
modalities for the certification program is still underway.
This alliance with Indraprastha University is part of IBM's University
Program wherein IBM has identified 65 institutions in the country like the IITs,
RECs and IIMs. The idea is to increase the availability of resource pool of
qualified professionals well-versed in IBM technologies.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof KK Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor of the
University, said, "Around 450 students will benefit from the program each
year. The university will also develop a competency center in the skills of
visual age for Java, UDB, DB2 and websphere application server with the
assistance of IBM."
The program was launched by Dr Narendra Nath, Minister of education and
Power, Delhi Government. He spoke of the need for a IIT in Delhi and expressed
hope that IBM would extend a proposal for similar joint initiatives to the Delhi
government as well.
