IBM extends tieup to IU

IBM and Indraprastha University (IU) have signed a strategic alliance wherein

the company would provide free software to the university to train the students

in IBM technologies. IBM would also train the faculty on these technologies and

provide appropriate support as and when needed.

The alliance with IBM would enable Indraprashtra University to incorporate

educational programs on IBM software technologies to support the main course

curriculum and electives or projects within the framework of the university

syllabus.

Under this program, colleges affiliated to the university will offer 10

projects to students on IBM software programs. On completion of this program

students would be qualified to take the IBM certification tests although

modalities for the certification program is still underway.

This alliance with Indraprastha University is part of IBM's University

Program wherein IBM has identified 65 institutions in the country like the IITs,

RECs and IIMs. The idea is to increase the availability of resource pool of

qualified professionals well-versed in IBM technologies.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof KK Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor of the

University, said, "Around 450 students will benefit from the program each

year. The university will also develop a competency center in the skills of

visual age for Java, UDB, DB2 and websphere application server with the

assistance of IBM."

The program was launched by Dr Narendra Nath, Minister of education and

Power, Delhi Government. He spoke of the need for a IIT in Delhi and expressed

hope that IBM would extend a proposal for similar joint initiatives to the Delhi

government as well.
