Sun Microsystems' Sun Tech Days, a global developer event, was kicked off
amidst a gathering of developers, executives representing companies and students
from across the globe.
Rich Green, Executive VP, Sun Microsystems in his keynote address said,
“India is witnessing tremendous growth, not just in the business but also on the
web. This growth would only get bigger and better in the coming quarters. Web
economy would continue to grow and new applications would enable life on the
web.”
With open source revoluÂtion growing by leaps, application development and
project management is estimated to grow to $127 million in 2007.
Talking on the role of developers in this open source event, Green averred,
“Developers are the backÂÂÂbone of software developÂment and open communiÂties;
they create new possibilities, inspire thought and drive innovation.”
“Sun strongly believes that sharing and collaborating with the developer
community is the key to building opportunities,” he said.
The theme for this year's session is 'Open OpportuÂnities' and is covering
technologies such as Java EE, JRuby, JavaFX, NetÂBeans, Java SE, OpenJDK,
OpenSolaaris amongst others.
With the developer population of Sun growing at a blistering pace in the
country and standing at 652,610, he stressed that this conference would
highlight the importance for the Indian developer community to graduate to the
next level of contributing, competing and collaborating on platforms of global
technoÂlogical expertise.
