Hutch, a cellular service in Delhi, has introduced a recharge initiative called ‘Direct Top-Up’, that would enable Hutch subscribers to refill their prepaid cards of any denomination by simply sending an SMS to 140 or walking into the closest ATM of any of the five banks. The company has tied-up with, namely HDFC Bank, UTI Bank and IDBI Bank with SBI and CITIBANK to be operational shortly. The service, which is available from June 30, 2003, would give Hutch Delhi prepaid subscribers access to 250 ATMs in Delhi and 2000 ATMs across the country.

With the introduction of this new service, Hutch Delhi prepaid subscribers will now have the flexibility to refill their Prepaid cards for any amount between Rs 324 to Rs 5,000 and not be restricted to pre-denominated cards. To avail the service, a subscriber needs to hold a bank account with any of the banks mentioned above.

To refill his or her prepaid card through SMS, a subscriber has to register with the bank and would receive a PIN through SMS. This PIN needs to be used each time the subscriber undertakes an SMS based transaction. To refill through the ATM, the subscriber would need to select the Hutch Prepaid refilling options on the ATM screen and enter his or her mobile number. This is as simple as withdrawing money from an ATM. This process also gives a subscriber the benefit of refilling or topping-up for others by just entering their mobile numbers on the ATM screen.

In both the processes, the subscriber is spared the inconvenience of physically carrying the recharge coupons when he is roaming or unable to go to a Hutch outlet.
