"Chinese telecom manufacturer, Huawei is now focusing at enhancing channel cooperation to increase its device sales in India," said Victor Shan, president, India Device Business Department , Huawei India at the launch of Ascend Mate, its 6.1 inch HD display smartphone in India, priced smartly at Rs 24,900.

He added, "In 2012, India revenue for Huawei devices was $300 mn with 20% growth and 10 mn device shipments. There will be a 3-pronged approach to increase sales-expand market, enhance channels, and expand portfolio. In line with this approach, Huwaei has invested in India for its R&D facility for devices. More than 5000 people are employed in India. With the global launch of Ascend Mate, the device is now available in India and we will be expanding our portfolio with the launch of more devices before the festival season."

Redington is the national distributor of Huawei devices and in the last 18 months, Huawei has set up 1000+ outlets, added Anand Narang, marketing director, terminal, Huawei India speaking to The DQ Week. Huawei will take up extensive marketing campaign and has earmarked 8-10% of its revenue to invest in retail marketing and promotions in local and national media apart from roadshows, activation programs and spread message through fanbase of Chetan Bhagat, Huawei's brand advisor, who was present at the launch of Ascend Mate.

The devices are available in 35 major cities in India through IT and multi-brand mobile stores apart from online channels like Flipkart, Infibeam, Snapdeal, shopclues and multi-brand stores like Croma, Ezone, etc. 100 Huawei Experience outlets have also been established for improved customer interaction." Said Narang.

Targeting sales of 10 lakh smartphones in 2013, he added, "Currently IT channels contribute 60-70% of its data card sale." Going forward, online and modern trade is gaining momentum.

"We will invest around 8 to 10% of our mobile devices revenue in India. In 2012, our India revenue was $300 mn. The focus would be now in strengthening our retail presence and brand building exercise," said Shan at the launch of this high-end phablet.

Huawei's Ascend Mate , which runs on Android 4.1 jelly bean , a Huawei Silicon 1.5 Ghz quad core and a 4050mAh battery, showcases innovation and delivers entertainment, communication and creative experience at a smart price and we definitely expect a positive response from the Indian market," Shan further added.
