.Biscom's FastWeb, an alternative broadband broadband
telecom company in Italy, has selected Hughes Software Systems (HSS) to increase
the VoIP capability of its triple-play integrated network. In partnership with
Italtel, a leading SI in Italy, HSS has offered FastWeb scalability and
manageability for its fast growing subscriber base using its VoIP Gatekeeper
solution.
e.Biscom was the first company worldwide to implement and
demonstrate the industrial feasibility of innovations in the telecom field as
the creation of a fully IP-based architecture, direct fiber connections to both
business and residential customers, and high quality broadcast television and
video services over DSL.
The FastWeb network, built on a Fiber To The Home (FTTH) and
ADSL approach, is a fully-independent alter-native to the incumbent's
infrastructure and is therefore the first facility to extend second-generation
Internet access to residential users at significantly faster speeds than other
carriers. The net-work covers the main Italian cities: Milan, Rome, Genoa,
Turin, Naples, Bologna, Ven-ice, Padua, Biella, Reggio Emi-lia, Modena and Bari.
According to the press rel-ease, the scalable HSS solution
has helped FastWeb to reap the benefit of scale in its expansion plans and
accrue significant cost sav-ings. With carrier-grade ava-ilability, Web-based
management, CGI provisioning interface and enhanced CLI interface, Fast Web's
network has acquired even greater relia-bility, manageability and
cost-effectiveness.
