HP has introduced its sub Rs 45 K notebook, post the duty relief provided by

the government. This further reduction in the price barrier of notebooks,

presents the range of Compaq Presario notebooks at a price of Rs 44,990.

Ravi Swaminathan, VP (Personal Systems Group), HP India, said, "The

recent announcement of the duty sops by the government has enabled HP to offer

this extent of a price cut to the end customers."

Adding that HP was passing on the benefits of the duty cuts to the

end-customer; he reiterated that the product now bolstered its USP of offering

the value proposition of mobility and quality assurance at an affordable price.

The notebook comes with a free carry case for this month. Prior to this price

cut due to the duty relief, the notebook was priced at Rs 49,999.

Commenting on the larger impact of the duty relief announced recently,

Swaminathan said, "The rationalization of the duty structure for IT

hardware and components will provide new impetus to the growth of the Indian IT

industry. The relief provided is of special significance to the domestic

industry, which should see stronger demand due to softer price-lines."

"As the market leader, we have a duty to grow the market. At the

high-end, we are doing that with our wireless initiatives and the Wi-Fi notebook

and there will be more launches soon in this space. At the lower end, we want to

bring down the price barrier so that the real drivers in a mass market can

benefit and embrace computing on the move," Swaminathan added.
