At a recently held event in Bengaluru, HP has announced the launch of ProLiant Generation 8 (Gen8) servers. HP ProLiant Gen8 servers are the result of a 2-year program called Project Voyager, the company's initiative to redefine data center economics by automating every aspect of the server life cycle. Till date, Project Voyager has resulted in more than 900 patents filed and a new systems architecture called HP ProActive Insight architecture, which will span the entire HP Converged Infrastructure.
Project Voyager is the third phase of HP's multi-year transformation plan for the server market, which began in November 2011 with Project Moonshot. Project Moonshot changed how servers are built for extreme-low-energy computing. Project Odyssey, phase two, redefined the future of mission-critical computing. With phase three, Project Voyager, HP automates every aspect of the server life cycle along with redefining the expectations and economics of data centers.
Speaking at the launch, Vikram K, director, Industry Standard Servers, HP India, said, "The skyrocketing cost of operations in the data center is unsustainable, and enterprises are looking at HP to help solve this problem. We are delivering innovative intelligence technologies that enable servers to virtually take care of themselves, allowing data center staff to devote more time to business innovation. After taking huge lead in the first-gen of servers, we are now launching the ProLiant Gen8 servers."
"Manual operations, inefficient energy usage. and unplanned downtime are impacting business growth, as it puts down heavily on costs. HP has invested 2 years, $300 mn on R&D, and interacted with 10,00,00 customers in order to come out with this range of servers. The ProLiant Gen8 are the most-sufficient servers, where its intelligence and automation benefits across the lifecycle and data center," added Vikram.
Moreover, the company is coming up with a comprehensive program to train the existing channel partners on these Gen8 servers. Besides, it might also look at bringing a few specialized partners on board in order to penetrate deep into the market.
The new HP ProLiant Gen8 have already started shipping worldwide at a cost ranging from $1,723 to $2,878 and vary based on configurations.
